Freddie Hubbard Dead at 70

This just sucks. Red Clay is what it's all about.

That is bad news. Such a terrific composer. He had just played a date in town within the past few months.

I think I'll pay tribute by listening to Red Clay and maybe some Midnight Marauders.

Lyle, I thought you we're only about Hippity Hop. Next you'll be posting about the Delta Blues - hope so! Sorry about Freddie, serious chops.

RIP. Loved his playing on ST's Sugar and the various live CTI All-Star records, in addition to Red Clay.

Very few could articulate the trumpet like Freddie Hubbard could - a dynamic performer. Though the only time I saw him was in the early 90's in wisconsin after his lip problems; it was very sad, every other note fizzled out. You could see the frustration on his face, this was for a guy who, before, would never lay a clam. Wish I could have seen him in his prime. Open Sesame and Hub-Tones remain two of my favorite blue note sessions. Thanks for the post Lyle.
