Just a straight TN on 2003 Puffeney Arbois "Vieilles Vignes"

Have not had much experience with Puffeney's reds but after this bottle I need to. Jura reds really qualitatively can compete with great Burgundy village level wines (Chambolle, Gevrey, Vosne) with a a tad more rusticity than the average Burg. Puffeny's whites are brilliant, big, rich, oxidized wonders of the vinous world but that is another post for another day

The 2003 Arbois VV is a blend of Poulsard, Trousseau & Pinot Noir. The nose has many different spices (orange rind, cinnamon, clove) and a high toned sweet floral thing going on. Great nose. Complex and original. The palate is soft yet rich and has nice acidity with suave tannins. Seems a bit closed at this point and could benefit from further aging. The finish is tangy, salty and slightly warm which is to be expected from a 2003 in France. The warmth is more like a CDP ripe vintage warmth. I don't believe it detracts. If you have these, all four of you, tuck away for five years and then this should be cruising.

  1. How long would you recommend waiting on the 2002 of this? Thanks.
