Am sipping the 2005 Jean Paul Brun Cote de Brouilly and it has struck me how incredible the Terres Dorees lineup is in 2005. You can compare it to such runs as the Donnhoff '01's, DRC '99's, Breton 2002's, Karthauserhof 05's, Muller-Catoir '98's...etc when there is something just so special across the board. There is something very special about Brun's 2005's. The freshness allied with the dazzlingly pure fruit and plentiful structures is just a compelling combination. I need massice quantites of each one. I have no idea where to put them. They are in such fat bottles that don't fit in my cave. Do I start off-site? Do I dare even think about it?
Had the 2002 Hexamer Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Kabinett the other week at Grand Sich and it was really just screaming. Salient acidity, pure red fruits and crisp icing like texture. Took on a slightly honeyed component on the finish along with stone fruit flesh. Fantastic minerality runs throughout. Great stuff.
At Blau Gans last Friday night had the 2005 Munzberg Weisserburgunder Kabinett Trocken and it it did not show nearly as well as the 2004. Suffered from the heat. Easy to drink but somewhat dilute and lacking focus.
That's all for this time. Very tired.
I tried the 05 Brun Vielles Vignes and found it awfully tannic. What am I doing wrong?
