Everybody has a favorite summer sipper and mine the last two summers has been the Ameztoi Txakolina. Always a favorite wine of mine to mispronounce but in recent years as my affinity towards it has grown my pronunciation has dramtically improved and I only mispronounce it one out of every fiteen to twenty times. The grapes are Hondarribi Zuri and Hondarribi Beltza.......just your typical everyday grapes like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. For me the '05 was the benchmark for this wine but the current vintage 2006 is no slouch either. The 2006 is leaner and the '05 benefited from the extra heat and softened the mouthfeel. It had no shortage of zing and zip though. The wine has a tremendous saline quality to it with loads of minerally wet earth and some shrieking lime fruit. There is a slight fizz which in most wines I do not like in this wine I absolutely love. Refreshing, complex, salty, zingy and easily quaffable. Great wine, somewhat affordable (under $20), and incredible with a vast array of foods.
Does Chambers St. have the pink version yet? And have you tried it?
ReplyDeleteDon't have it yet and have not tried it. I think we are getting some. What grapes?
ReplyDeleteImporters' web page says the same ones as the white, Beltza and Zuri.
ReplyDeleteMay have to open my bottle over the weekend.
