Rhys: Doing things in a different way

I just had to post this link to the article by Eric Asimov on Kevin Harvey's winery Rhys. I have never met Kevin but have enjoyed his posts on the Squires bulletin board for many years. I fell like I know him anway. Kevin drinks great Burgundy and has none of the attitude or one upmanship qualites most people have who have alot of money and alot of wine. He is fascinated by each and every wine and takes them on their own intrinsic qualities. An everybody is equal drinker when he could probably drink mags of RC everyday for the rest of his life. Refresghing to see. I have not had Rhys Pinot Noir's but have enjoyed a bottle of Chardonnay and he definetly makes the wine he loves in the style he loves. Which is also a style I love. Kevin is completely deserving of the attention he is getting and I wish him luck and hopefully I will be able to get the wines to sell at Chambers Street. Hard stuff to get! Rhys

  2. I'd love to try one sometime.

It's amazing how clear the San Andreas is on that map.

  3. I'm on the Rhys list as well. Have yet to open a bottle. Either me bad or me patient.

It should be mentioned that their estate grapes are biodynamically grown.

  4. Santa Cruz Mtn wines, when made from grapes picked at reasonable brix and fermented DRY, are absolutely CA's most interesting, and nearest to the greats of the old world in terms of character and ageability. Santa Cruz Mountain Winery's wines (especially the PN and Durif) are amazing. And downright cheap for what's in the bottle. The best domestic wine I think I've ever had (at least top 3) was a bottle of 1981 Cronin Pinot Noir. This was 3 months ago.
