A duo from Keller

After hitting up the craziness that was the Moore Brothers Keller tasting I supported the cause and bought a couple bottles of Keller. No GG's as they were long sold out but some of Klaus-Peter's more inexpensive offerings. Well they were both brilliant. First up was the 2006 Keller Kabinett "Limestone" and this was a shimmering beauty full of fruit, limestone and crunchy acidity. Very ripe and rich. Seems more Spatlese in style than Kabinett as there is no shortage of lovely ripe fruit. Some red fruits and also stone fruits. Really pure and clean and extremely easy to drink. It was gone in an hour. Next up was the 2006 Keller Von der Fels Trocken which is young vine fruit from Kirchspiel and Hubacker. This was lovely and a shockingly great value. Loads of peach, celeriac, crunchy minerals and a dazzlingly pure rain-water like presence on the palate. There is lovely concentration here and huge core of fruit, mineral and acid. What a wine. Perfect dry Riesling for drinking now.

  1. Didn't get to taste the Kabinett, but i really enjoyed the von der Fels at the Keller tasting here in SF last week. It was the only wine i bought. As much as i loved the two GG trockens that were being poured, i couldn't quite bring myself to pony up $65. Although i do sort of regret not getting a bottle of the Dalsheim Hubacker GG. Killer stuff.

  2. Holy crap, that Moore Brothers tastings was one of the bigger mob scenes I've encountered lately!

I agree totally on the "Von der Fels"... You expect those GG's to deliver full-on greatness, but this wine was just so chiseled and harmonious, and really bowled me over. Can't wait to taste the '07s.

To echo the tiny little nagging voice in the back of my brain, though: Do you ever find Keller's wines just too pristine, too perfectly polished?
