Thoughts on wine and whatever strikes me at the moment. But it's mostly about wine.

The East Flatbush Project - Tried by 12
This beat is just smoldering. As a DJ this was always nearby. The Wu-Tang style samurai guitar sample is just so dope. One of the all time great beats. Hip-Hop is so depressing now. Songs like this like this make me ache for the old days.
This one is a killer. Good post. Roc Raida has this on one of his mix cds. Funny, because I was going to post another one from the same mix cd - Big L's 'The Heist.'
Very cool. I was never a huge HipHop fan, but I do like some of the classic stuff Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Fab 5 and many more. It's stagnant. I think African and Balkan (esp. DJ Shantel) music are much more beat-percussion driven and vital.
Very cool instrument, the koto. I love the way it works. I was mesmerized watching a guy on the subway playing what seemed to be a baritone-register koto the other day.
The first time I heard this was probably in 95 or so...it was on a DJ Premier mixtape (yep, he used to put these out as 'Primo Cuts'). Such a dope beat and emblematic of a somwhat underappreciated era in NYC hp-hop.
Damn,
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I have never heard this before. EVERY other video you have posted I knew well...
Thanks for turning me on to this. Dope beat.

ReplyDeleteI think that "samurai guitar" is actually a koto, no?
ReplyDeleteM.

ReplyDeleteNoah,
ReplyDeleteThis was a true hip-hop geeks track. Glad you like it.
Manuel,
I believe it is.
