The Wire on HBO is over. My week just got an hour shorter but I am sure I will find something to do in that hour. I loved every second of it. Heartbreaking, amazing acting and yes I'll piggyback and say it was the greatest show ever on television. Gripped me everytime I watched it. The way David Simon intricately intertwined all five seasons was remarkable and the pain that I felt went certain characters died was devastating and upsetting for me. Not much if any television has ever done that for me. The writing is just insanely brilliant. I have not been sadder to see a TV show go ever. The ambiguity of the characters. No black no white. Just all grey. I feel like I know Baltimore more than I'll ever know NYC and I grew up here. I will watch it all over again. And probably again after that. Sad to see it go but glad I got to experience it and encourage every possible person out there too.
Here is a great article on David Simon and the Wire from
The New Yorker.
Dammit, I just got hooked.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to get into this show, but haven't, hoping to go the DVD route. Thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to good 'ole USA where shows like Wire have short shelf life and "American Idol" and other drek goes on forever.
ReplyDeleteLyle, I suggest you use this hour to study ethics and law respect from Eliot Spitzer, still The Governer AND "Client #9"
P.S. his name came to my mind in relation to Wire:
ReplyDeleteif he watched the Wire more and fucked around less - he'd avoided his phone and TEXT MESSAGES intercepted by the Feds.
Who could have thought that nowadays TV has EDUCATIONAL value? HBO surely bucked the trend!
Lyle, you scooped me!
ReplyDeleteSerge, I was contemplating a Spitz post....
