Complex. Almost brooding. But often austere and verging on charmless. They are
interesting but rarely delicious. Then you have the more approachable Champagnes that are delicious and forward with lovely fruit and the classic Champagne acidity, but they can be less interesting. There are very few Champagnes that have the stuff to appeal to both worlds ... this is one of them
If you bought the 2008/2010 Brice Bouzy Grand Cru and have not had it, leave work, go directly home and open a bottle. I opened one just a few months ago and the wine is just ridiculous. I had it alongside one of the top geek Champagne producers and the Brice blew it away.
Most of the Champagnes I've bought direct and sold so far have been in the $30 range. They are incredible values that would normally cost $50-$60 at traditional retail. But many of you have asked me to find some premium Champagnes that would normally cost over $90-100 and sell them in the $50 range. Well I've been traveling all over Champagne this past week and I found a direct from the estate Champagne like this and offering it today. I can confidently say that there is no better buy for $50 in grower Champagne today. Period. Of course, I "cheated" by going direct to the grower instead of through 2 middlemen who each marked the wine up, otherwise it would cost $90-$100.
One of the highlights of my trip to Champagne last year was to taste a new and very special wine from Brice, the wonderful Champagne house located in the heart of Bouzy. I love every wine Brice makes and the response has been overwhelming to the delicate yet intense Champagnes of Jean-Rene Brice. There is a finesse and elegance to all of these wines that is very special. Many of you have love two wines in particular from Brice. One is the vintage Grand Cru bottling from Bouzy (we have offered 2010 and 2008) and one is the delicate and wonderful NV Rose, as Bouzy is a very special place in my mind for rose champagne. What if we were to combine those two things? Well I haven't but Jean-Rene Brice has.
Enter the 2011 Brice Bouzy Rose Grand Cru which can be had for for $52.99 a bottle on a 3-pack and I have special 6-pack pricing for $49.99 a bottle. The reason I have 6 pack pricing and not case pricing is because I have too little of this wine and the most I can probably sell to one person is 6 bottles. They only made 1,520 bottles, so this is extremely limited. Possibly the most limited and exclusive Champagne we have left. But believe me, you want this wine. It is absolutely stunning. Made from 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir this wine has its malolactic fermentation blocked as that is the key to the finesse and elegance that Brice gets. It has 4gl of dosage and is classified as Extra Brut so this is amongst the driest offerings from Brice. The wine is incredible. The nose offers up some brioche, some subtle hints of raspberry and a lively intense mineral character from the Chardonnay. The palate is a force of sap and structure with stunning purity and layered depth. This is so alive it is almost electric. The purity here is dazzling as is the sappy palate staining length. This saps your palate and floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. The wine become a part of your palate as the minerality has almost a quarry-like impression on the palate such a lively and sharp feeling from the Chardonnay which cuts across the palate like knife. The acid is wonderful but never intrusive. The finesse and top notch quality easily make this the best Rose Champagne I have ever sold. It should be $80-$100 a bottle. I live for Vintage Grand Cru Rose Champagne but it usually very expensive as it is so rare. Think Dom Perignon Rose or Krug or Vouette & Sorbee and you start to get what I mean. For $50 a bottle there is no better Vintage Rose Champagne. It is a vinous gift. This is a Champagne to sit and contemplate like a great bottle of Burgundy.
Please give me your ideal order and I will do my best.
