in the Aube which is in the South of Champagne and as such, the weather is hotter, the grapes get riper and the wines are fruitier. These are not acid-driven Champagnes but more balanced and well honestly, just delicious. You can't help but smile when you have one. They are some of the best value Champagnes I have ever tasted. They are incredibly delicate, fine and precise. It's like German precision meets the brilliant terroir of the Aube and a top producer in this exciting up and coming region. There is a house style here that is so distinct and unique, yet each wine has that style while remaining startlingly original.
The 19em Siecle is inexpensive because I buy direct but this is the Demets wine for serious Champagne drinkers. I can offer the NV Marie Demets Cuvee 19m Siecle for $34.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. This is a profoundly complex bottle of wine and very different from the other Marie Demets wines. Very different. Most, besides the BDB, are all or dominantly Pinot Noir. The fruitiness and elegance of Pinot Noir along with the yeasty minerality of Chardonnay make this a thrilling wine. Additionally, the wine has been deftly aged in oak for 18 months giving it additional complexity. The nose starts off very, very complex but the classic Demets finesse is there in spades and spills over to the delicate, yet very complex and yeasty palate. It is so persistent on the palate with an incredibly long finish. There is also an explosion of fruit on the mid palate that delivers on the nuanced fruit/mineral finish. Almost sappy. Deep, crunchy and loaded with cooking spices with so much delicacy yet also some serious stuffing as well. The swath it cuts on the palate is very impressive and it has a very sappy, long, detailed and very delineated finish. The wine is NOT released for 3-4 years and the base cuvee for this wine is 2010. 40% is fermented in barrels and they consider this their "deluxe" cuvee."
Today I am thrilled to introduce a newish cuvee from Marie Demets. This is the 2nd time I have sold it. For those of you that like the Brut Reserve now comes the Extra Brut Reserve which has a lower dosage. It is at 4 grams per liter and the lower amount of sugar gives even more dynamism to an already dynamic cuvee. This has always been the best QPR play in the Demets book and now they've improved on solid gold, which I did not think was possible. The NV Marie Demets Extra Brut Reserve can be had today for as little as $32.99 on a 4-pack. This is the type of dry, complex Champagne everyone will love and shows Pierre Demets improvement as a winemaker. Toasty and very vinous and in the ultra precise, finessse-driven and elegant style that Pierre Demets does so well. There is a a lot to like here and also a good amount of material to work with which makes me think this will age for 5-8 years.. Soft yet precise like only Demets can do. Extraordinary new addition to the Demets portfolio and very happy they have this. This the best "geek" value in grower Champagne at $32.99 on the case. What do I mean by "geek?" Well all the geeks love low to no dosage stuff and this a great entry into that market with an insane value play like this. And this will satisfy champagne geeks and also anybody who wants a great, complex bottle of wine as it has sap, structure and extract.
NV Marie Demets "Cuvee 19m Siecle" - $36.99 ($139.96 4-pack)
NV Marie Demets "Extra Brut Reserve" - $34.99 ($131.96 4-pack)
