Brut, 2008 - Normally Goes for $104-$135 (I'm Under $60) Stunningly Well Etched and Fine - Crazy Value at This Price

I've been searching all year for a killer deal for Cyber Monday. Since my business is 100% cyber, I
wanted to find something particularly special. I've got a lot of hardcore wine geeks on the wine list and the #1 request from them seems to be Champagne from the 2008 vintage. Why? Because it's greatness. Period. End. The top bottlings are silly good and packed with intense fruit, insane levels of acidity and structure to last generations. I try and offer them and find them when I can.

What if I told you there is a top version of a 2008 Grande Marques Champagne from a great house that usually trades for $104-$135 but today in my Cyber Monday special I can offer if for $59.99 on a 3-pack. This is one of the greatest deals in the short history of Fass Selections. Today I have the 2008 Paul Drappier Grand Sendree Extra Brut for $59.99 a bottle on a 3-pack. I've always loved Drappier and they introduced me to the idea of Brut Zero many years ago when I was a wine neophyte. I love the avid driven structured style but also with a core of dramatic fruit. This is a single parcel Champagne and is 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. I love Champagne Paul Drappier because they were some of the founding fathers per se of low sulphur and low dosage before it became the thing to do. They were doing it before many of the hipster somms favorite producers were even born!

This is a heavy hitter and expresses the insane structure and density Pinot Noir achieved in 2008. The nose lets you know you are in for a great ride. Acacia and honey and brioche and toast and intense tangerine and blood orange develops after aeration. Insanely clean and mineral. A gnarly perfume develops after aeration and even more fruit. Yet decadent and delicate. Only in Champagne. This is a top example of why '08 gets my geek radar going as well as many on the list. It's that good. Better than 1996. There is incredible fruit in 2008. It's very well defined. The palate does what great Grand Marques can do in a top vintage. Be finely etched. Vinous, yet also have a wine as mousse as one can imagine with rich fruit and lovely dense and almost sweet yet salty acids. It's awesome and dense. The wine is also structured and super delicate at this point but can and will last 15-18 more years. There is very low added sulfur, and only 5 grams of sugar which is barely noticeable amongst the density and structure of this cuvée and the 2008 vintage. 35% of the wine is matured for 9 months in oak barrels and then it is aged for seven years. I think it will hit it's stride around 2018 or so and hang around for 15+ years or more!

For $60 this is a steal. Run and get this. It will take me a year to find a deal this good again.
