Laible's 2015s Are Some of the Best German Wines I've Ever Had - 2 Small Allocations of Some Stunning But Affordable Bottlings

Many of you have happily received your shipments of 2015 German Rieslings and have seen and
more importantly tasted how special this vintage is. All of the producers at Fass Selections hit it out of the park, but a few turned the volume up even a bit more. Andreas Laible's 2015s are absurd. They are so concentrated yet graceful and deeply mineral that every single Riesling I tasted was epic in its beauty. That is why in 2015 I'll be selling two new Laible wines because I want to offer as much as I can. The wines are shockingly nimble even though built like brick houses. I hope everyone is holding onto their previous vintages of Laible as well. 13s are in the zone right now while I'd wait a few more years on 2012 and 2014. My allocations are ok for each of today's wines but both of these will be allocated. Some of you have learned the hard way about the demand for '15. I wish I had enough wine for everybody but that is the nature of the beast.

This is Laible's best vintage by far. It reminds me of a much more structured 13 with higher acidity and so much length. The length of the 15 Laible wines is just stunning. When I tasted with Andreas and Petra the usually reserved Andreas said the vintage is his best and almost too good to be true. Also, there is not much. I've reserved as much as I could but it will prove to be not enough. There's never enough but at the end of the day there is always more wine. there is one thing about 2015 certain producers certainly did make once in a generation wines, but the German public knows and have been snapping them up like I've never seen before. And now Rheinhardt has written about Nahe/ Rheinhessen/ Baden/ Pfalz which has only added kindling to the already raging wildfire of excitement surrounding this vintage. Dry wines from top 15 producers are such a hot commodity now and perhaps the last most undervalued great white wine category in the world.  Each offer from people such as today's producer, Laible, are getting harder and harder to source as the demand in Germany for Laible is at a fever pitch the likes I have never seen before. I've had to reserve every bottle of Laible months in advance.

Up first is the 2015 Laible Riesling Trocken "An der Kapelle" which can be had for $29.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. They only made 600-800 bottles of this in 2015. People forget that these wines are made in small lots just like Burgundy. Riesling is the greatest white wine value in the world as this wine illustrates. Huge, mineral and very floral nose. Also a lovely hint of nuts, sponti and classic Laible florals. They are insane in 15 and on this wine. The acid level is terrific and is analytically the same level of acidity as 14. This is a huge chewy and dense wine with just enormous power and concentration. You cannot believe how much wine there is for $30.00. It also has a cooling intensity which my Laible lovers will know what I am taking about. This almost sharp herbal like intensity. It's what makes Laible distinctive and a core staple in the Fass Selections German Portfolio. I think this will need 5 years easy to become a bit more refined and work out of its youthfully awesome yet rancorous state. This is a 1er Cru quality wine and is in between Steinrassel and Achat in quality. I'm happy to be offering this wine. It is an Erste Lage for German wine geeks.

Up next I also have an Erste Lage that I'm also selling today because it is so ridiculously great and I think the fact that I can sell Erste Lage German Riesling from the great 2015 vintage from a top 10 producer for $23.99 a bottle gives me goose bumps. Today I can offer the 2015 Laible Riesling Trocken Alte Reben which can be had for $23.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. This wine is so good and such an absurd value I know most of you will just see Laible/2015/Riesling for $23.99 but please indulge me at least for a tasting note. This is 45-50 year old vines. Huge floral, mineral, ripe nose. Complex and precise aromas. The most open of these Laible 15s I've had.  Huge, chewy and densely concentrated fruit yet very typical Laible with the florals, minerals, herbals and terrific structure. Dense and opulent , yet very mellow and streamlined. Terrific finesse, texture and such elegance. This is so juicy and more importantly refined and ready to drink on arrival. No need to wait on this.

2015 Laible Riesling Trocken "Alte Reben" - $25.99 ($95.96 4-pack)
