Hand Over Land - Of My Top Burgundy Producers, These Are the BEST Values - Stunning Wines, Less Famous Terroir

Vincent Ledy Makes One of the Best 1er Cru Nuits Around
But His Roots Are in Savigny and Chorey
Vincent Lives in the Vineyards and Slaves Over Every Branch on Every Vine
THE best HCDN and THE best Chorey I've EVER Had
These Wines  Show What a Master Can Do in Less Famous Terroir and Are Not to Be Missed

I am fortunate to work with some incredible winemakers in Burgundy.  And let's face it, selling great wine from Gevrey or Nuits or Volnay or Pommard is not that difficult.  And for the quality, those wines are screaming values.

And then there is Vincent Ledy who got his start with Savigny les Beaune and Chorey Les Beaune.  Why?  Because he didn't inherit prime vineyards and even getting grapes from those AOCs is almost impossible.  So he focused on making great wine from less famous terroir and working his posterior off every single day to get the most out of that terroir.  And the wines are absolutely majestic.  Vincent's vineyard work shows with every sip.  When he harvests, the grapes are perfectly ripe and produce wines that have gorgeous dark berry fruit and also the balance that one gets from a master winemaker.  Yes, I love selling wines from Volnay and Gevrey, but I am so proud of these wines because they display the greatness that is Burgundy from a master winemaker at prices that everyone can afford.

Vincent has expanded to make one of the most expensive Nuits St George on the market and will soon sell white wines as well ( I can't wait).  He's on his way to fame.  But this is where he started and where is soul lies.  And these are wines that are not to be missed.

First up is the 2014 Vincent Ledy Hautes Cotes de Nuits for as little as $26.99 a bottle on the 4-pack. There are no two ways about it. This is as deep and rich as a HCDN that has ever been made. The nose is beautiful with flowers, mineral, soil and deep red/blue fruit. Insane freshness. Terrific purity. Very special wine. So deep and utterly special fruit. Dark berry that is refined enough to drink with fish yet weighty enough to drink with steak.  The wine is so refined and so pure that it is easily 1er Cru status. The structure suggests a 10+ year aging curve. You will not believe this wine.  I cannot recommend this enough.  There is incredible palate presence and fruit here along with some serious structure.  Just terrific. It may not mean much to you if I say this is the best Hautes Cotes de Nuits ever but you have to understand I've tasted a lot of Hautes Cotes de Nuits of varying quality and to today tell you this is the best one it's a big deal.   This could be a Vosne-Romanee village wine and no one would be the wiser.

Up next is the 2014 Chorey Les Beaune "Les Beaumonts" for $29.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. This is by far the best Chorey Les Beaune I've ever had. It can age for 15+ years. The wine is just ridiculous. The nose is a panoply of spice, minerals, dark berry fruits, fruitcake and wet earth. The palate is all super sweet fruit and is very intense. Great ripe and velvety tannins. Intense and very complex palate that has grip and depth. So much sweet fruit and tannin yet so refined, fresh and juicy. Your mouth almost does a double take. Very special. Fans out with a long finish of lovely minerals and earth.  This wine is definitely a step up over the HCDN in terms of palate presence and complexity.

Remember that these both have ZERO new oak as Ledy does not believe in new oak. These are old school as they come but there is a dynamic fruit quality and energy on the palate that gives them a freshness that is not that old school if that makes sense.

2014 Vincent Ledy Hautes Cote de Nuits - $28.99 ($107.96 4-pack) (LIMITED)

2014 Vincent Ledy  Chorey-Les-Beaune "Les Beaumonts" - $31.99 ($119.96 4-pack) (LIMITED)
