6 Questions with Christophe Thörle

6 Questions used to be a regular feature that I used to adore reading in the Sunday NY Times
Magazine.  Now I want to bring the format to Fass Selections by featuring our favorite wine producers and their candid responses to questions. I love this format as it extends beyond the traditional wine questions and shows am irreverent human side to all the people I work with and work with us. I hope you enjoy this series and the latest installment is Christope Thörle of the namesake winery in the small village ofd Saulheim in the Rheinhessen. Sharp answers from a sharp guy.

1- What was the last great wine you had that was not one of yours?
Just yesterday, i had a bottle of Saumagen Spätburgunder GG 2015 from our friends Andi and
Steffen Rings. An outstanding German Pinot Noir!

2- What was the last great meal you had?
Last weekend in Copenhagen, i enjoyed an amazing 5-course dinner together with fellow producers from Rhone, Champagne, Italy and Argentina. Lots of wine and fun at Restaurant Palægade.

3- What are you currently streaming on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon that you really enjoy?
Terror / House of Cards / Mad Men

4 - If you were prohibited from making wine, what would be your dream job?
Food & Travel writer; I would love to visit every country in the world.

5 - What is your favorite wine region that is not yours or ones you currently work with?
Burgundy, Champagne, Piemonte, Northern Rhone

6 - What do you think is the biggest problem for winemakers today?
I love being a winemaker so much, but there is an increasing problem of time allocation; The responsibilities of a winemaker are ever expanding, but the day with its 24 hours is not. The job gets on the one hand more traditional with natural vineyard management, unfiltered bottlings, hand harvest and low intervention in the cellar (which is all very time intense) and on the other hand, more modern and international. Because of the growing interest in fine wine production, you have to be present online in different social media channels and offline in winemakers dinners/presentations all over the world.
