"Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow
That I shall say good night till it be morrow."
Romeo & Juliet, Act 2, Scene 2, William Shakespeare
It is with sadness that I announce the final offer of the 2017 whites from Enderle & Moll. These are among the most sought after, brilliant and distinctive wines in my portfolio. They are also, oddly, among the most inexpensive.
Everyone got as much as they wanted of the first two wines. The 17 Müller Thurgau "Müller" and the 17 Spätburgunder rose I offered. I emailed them the order and they told me everything is allocated again as they vastly underestimated the demand of the list they send out their wines to. I'm sure they got so many "I'll take it alls" they had no idea what to do except allocate. So this is a holiday weekend and I hope I've got some of your eyes here as this is and Enderle & Moll white wine a palooza! All four of these wines are allocated.
I've got two brand new wines to the list, one which I've finally got an allocation for and one in which they made for the first time in 2017. You do not want to miss any of these. I only have 60 of the Müller-Thurgau Bundstandstein but don't fret as all the wines are insane if you miss out. These are some of the most unique and startlingly delicious white wines in the world. They also happen to be insane values. If you bought the rose and the other white you are on this list.
Up first we have a wine that I actually get written about quite often from happy clients. It is the 2017 Enderle and Moll Weiss/Grau for as little as $19.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. This is a legit value. I don't sell wines like this that often but this really rang my bell and many wines I've had in this genre
from Germany I don't go crazy for. Light, blended mineral whites are kind of superfluous in Germany. This is an even blend of 50% Pinot Blanc and 50% Pinot Gris and is a very clear and elegant wine with lots of beautiful juicy fruit, is unfiltered, has a fascinating herbal complexity that also resonates and echoes on the palate with flowers mixed in. It's like a combo of the fruitier Muller-Thurgau "the mulller", and the rare and allocated Muller-Thurgau "Bundstandstein." The wine is very mineral and citrusy on the nose and the palate is a driving nuclear explosive force that explodes like no other wine in my portfolio. It is like biting into a hypothetical blend of a very ripe red/pink grapefruit and a ripe Meyer lemon. It explodes in your palate and then has stunning stony minerality in the mid palate and uncommon depth. It grows in complexity and weight as It airs. There is not a fresher, more vibrant, deep, vivid, complex wine that we sell for under $20. The wine is revelatory. Combine that quality with the chiseled, dense and energetic 2017 vintage, with its trademark juicy dense fruit and vibrant acidity and you have an epic Weiss/Grau in the making. It is so utterly complete for a wine in which if it had maybe 1 of the 3 things we look for in wines like this, it would be remarkable, but it has all 3. Price, complexity, quaffability. It is the easiest wine to drink in the portfolio and one of my personal favorites as $20 dollars gets you an amazing amount of wine. This was going to be the white wine of the year, but there's not enough. I kept this wine open (a bottle of the 16 recently) in my kitchen to see how long it would last. On day 7, I had my last sip and it was still going strong. That is amazing for an $20 wine. It just gets more complex and more deep. There is something special going on in Munchweir.
Up next I have one of the most stunning E and M wines that I taste every year with Sven in the cellar but he's never allocated me any as there is so little. I've got a decent allocation which I know you will all buy me out of but it's stunning wine. The 2017 Enderle & Moll Müller-Thurgau "Pur" can be had for $19.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. This is from low yielding Müller-Thurgau vines and is unfiltered and the minimum amount of sulfur to make the wine stable. The maceration is very long and the subsequent skin contact gives this Müller Thurgau it's own touch. But there is more! Only 80% of the grapes are fermented and 20% are left untouched and put back in the tank along with 30-40% of the skins! It's wild stuff with an orange color and a wild untamed nose that is out of this world. So expressive and smells like a field in Munchweir where the grapes are all from. But it needs maybe 2-3 hours of air to tame the nose. Once it does it's intensely mineral with superb minerality and a light/airy feel that is stunning for a wine of this type. Plummy nose with almost apple cider character. Even some beautiful and vivid red apples bathed in vivid herbs. It's almost like a light red wine in taste and aroma more than a white wine. It's unique and distinctive and the best of its type.
Up next I've got a stunning debut wine. The 2017 Enderle & Moll Weissburgunder "Muschelkalk" which can be had for $22.99 a bottle on a 4-Pack. They only made 1200 bottles of this and they gave me a nice allocation. I've never seen a pure Weissburgunder from the boys before and I'm ever excited. I did not taste this as this was a late bottling decision to isolate this particular parcel in the Muschelkalk. Below is what they sent me with some added flourish from me.
"This wine is also shaped by a longer maceration (like the "Pur") and subsequent skin contact. It has flavors of nuts, taut tannin structure and is a very delicate and very noble wine."
I'm going to guess that this wine will need a lot of air and last days on end open. I'm hoping I can get a bottle as I love Weissburgunder and am super excited to try it.
