- The barrels from the other top vineyards (Buntsandstein, Ida) are in our "Liaison", which is ultimately reflected in the quality of this year's "Liaison" ... by far the best Liaison they have ever had. It's almost like a Liaison Reserve.

Today is the most important wine we sell. It's the wine that almost single-handedly built hte German pinot noir business at Fass Selections. The wine is the 2019 Enderle & Moll Liaison for $33.99 on a 4-pack and $31.99 on a 12 bottle case. First of all I'm going deep ocean hyperbole here and will say this is the greatest QPR in the history of Pinot Noir. A Liaison Reserve essentially.

The Story
To take the wayback machine back to the first Enderle and Moll offer we could not give the stuff away. It was a combo of German Pinot's awful reputation and the fact that also we were a young company. But the intrepid and brave few souls that did order the 2011 Liaison loved it and the emails started coming (even though 2011 was a difficult vintage). They saw the same beauty I did in these wines despite a difficult vintage like 2011. People kept buying it but then the 2015 happened which is like the 1982 Bordeaux of German Pinot Noir. It's the vintage that put these wines on the map. That Liason was the start of a new level of quality as well. 15/16/17/18 and now 19 are elite wines

The 2019 Vintage
19 is the best of the bunch with that Grand Cru juice in it. Made from mostly old vines it is the definitive 1er Cru in Germany. This is Germany's Cros Parantoux. There is nothing like this wine not only in Germany but anywhere in the world. The level of quality, deliciousness and distinctiveness are second to none. Then you see it's low $30s and just laugh. This is one of the few wines that has not budged that

much in price since I've opened.

The tariffs, covid and 2018 frosts have bumped this offer up a few bucks but that's no fault of Florian and Sven. That's because Sven and Florian are mensches. That's really the only reason.

2019 is an incredible but very low quantity vintage for E&M. We might only be able to offer the Liaison (Reserve) once this year as yields across Baden are so low. Usually we offer twice.

The Wine
Below is my "rushed note" which I will translate in more evocative terms.

"Huge nose. Cherry, bowl of cherries, ripe as anything can ever be ripe without being overripe, palate is dense, intense and juicy with serious velvety, sexy oh so sweet tannins and earth. The level of refinement here is something else. Amazingly delicate all the way through but there is power and depth.  Amazing vivid fruit. So intense. This is genius." - Me

That note maybe captures a small part of the wine which is very important of course. Length, fruit, quality of fruit, quality of tannin, freshness which there was an impressive amount of, earthy nuances, refinement and the such. But it does not capture the emotional impact that these Pinot Noirs have. It's truly an emotional experience this wine.  On one level, the aromatics are so distinctive, it's almost hard to get a handle on them.  I've smelled porcini, gunsmoke, lilac, spice, licorice and other things I couldn't even identify.  I guess the poetry of it is that every vintage is like smelling something amazing for the first time.  Like the first time you smelled a rose or a truffle.  It's almost like creating new childhood memories, except it's as an adult.

It is almost hard to comprehend how this can be so filigreed, elegant, beautiful, and of such high quality for so little money. The fact that there is something like this that exists in the world is a wonder in itself. I'm not talking just wine. The 2018 Liason is a take your  breath away wine and life experience. I did not expect these wines to impact me like this. Florian is a genius of the highest degree and his collection of 2019s are his magnum opus. These could be better than the epic 2015s. I think they are and so does Florian.

For those of you who have had these wines, 2019 is a vintage to go really heavy on.

The Story
For those of you who do not know the story, this winery is so small, popular, and culty that their top wines are sold out ... forever.  They appear on secret lists in Germany's top restaurants shown to top customers.  And our small allocations are presold to the original buyers from when we opened.  But the Liason is so good, you shouldn't feel too badly.

This is semi limited depending on how the list reacts. I have some reserved but act fast. I'm taking a case for myself. I will not give it up as I missed out last time because you bought so much of it.
