There Is Nectar and There is Nectar...
...and There are Gods and There Are Gods
When I sell a wine that I think is over the top good, I am wont to call it "Nectar of the Gods." I don't ever say that lightly. When I say it, the wines are almost indescribably good.

Well, today, I have 2 wines that are on another level. These are the wines that the top Gods of the Pantheon reserve in their special stashes behind the throne. Thor, Hercules, Athena.  They don't get to touch these and they don't get an allocation.

There is a reason that aged BAs and TBAs can cost thousands of dollars. They are wines that almost transcend reality as we know it. They are made from hand picked individual grapes (hand picked bunches for the BAs) and are frightfully expensive to make. The ultimate luxury product.

Martin Muellen
Martin Müllen is one of the top 2-3 sweet winemakers in the Mosel. His wines age endlessly and are stunningly pure, complex and deep. They have that ethereal quality that only the top Mosel sweet wines have. These are some of the most extraordinary elixirs on the planet and I am honored and very lucky to sell these ethereal elixirs. Both wines today have exceptional scores. One is 100 and the other is 99. They are both 1/2 bottles and are both very limited.

The 2019 Vintage
2019 has given the greatest sweet wines in the Mosel since 2001. The wines have ENERGY. They are so lively and so energetic they are like rich liquid electricity. In 2020 almost no sweet wines were made and the jury is still hearing evidence as to what 2021 will yield.

Today's wines are true collectors items and arguably they are two of the greatest wines Martin Müllen has ever made. They are sick sick wines. I've tasted various BA's and TBA's at the estate in Traben-Trarbach and they're easily the highlights of my trips to Germany.

Below are the reviews. I didn't open the sample of the BA because my tasting note won't sway you. These are niche items and either you're a buyer or you are not. My tasting note won't put you in the buy camp if you are debating buying one the BA. These are expensive wines, not for everybody and are exceedingly rare.

But if you are a fan of dessert wines that can compete with the greatest sweet/dry/off-dry wines in the

world, I have some treats for you today.

2019 Martin Müllen Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese - 100 Points - $222.99 each on a 2-pack for a 375 ml bottle

"The 2019 Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese comes from a particular plot that normally brings very fine Spätlesen and was partly sourced for the "S" Beerenauslese. Picked on two days at the end of October, this is a beautifully clear, pure, minerally fresh and aromatic TBA with perfectly ripe peach, spices and oaky/nougat aromas. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a very intense but also refined, crystalline and salty TBA with a highly stimulating finish. This is a fantastic Riesling with so much fruit charm, precision, finesse and elegance. If you want to own a reasonably priced TBA of eternal class, this is the one to buy. 2019 Martin Müllen Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling Beerenauslese * - 99 Points - $171.99 each on a 2-pack for a 375 ml bottle

"Picked over several days and based on perfectly healthy raisins, the 2019 Trarbacher Hühnerberg Riesling Beerenauslese * was fermented in a traditional oak vat. The wine opens with a precise, aromatic, flinty, highly refined and elegant bouquet of ripe and stewed apricots, peaches and mirabelles. Intense and concentrated on the palate, this is a highly finessed, perfectly balanced and stimulatingly salty BA with a lemon-fresh and crystalline finish that makes this a fabulous and digestible BA of great class and style. Fantastic!" - 99 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
