The Fifth 1er Cru from Kühling Gillot and Battenfeld Spanier.

Among the great values in the wine world are the 4 premier cru wines from Battelnfeld Spanier and
Kühling Gillot.

These four wines represent a patchwork of style and terroir and truly if you only buy four Rieslings all year these are them. They are so essential, so delicious, so well made and deliver so much for the money it’s almost incomparable. They have purity, depth, elegance, complexity and age-ability. These are wines I cannot drink enough of and I have to pinch myself that I’m selling these genius Erste Lage wines from two estates that I’ve idolized long before I started representing them.

BS Mölsheim - this is the big brother that looks over the rest. Big, ripe, juicy and truly is a vintage calling card. Our best selling Riesling and at once it’s rich and ripe but it’s also transparent and intensely mineral.

BS Hohen-Sulzen - the little brother as we call it in house. Elegant, sophisticated, nimble and dazzlingly pure. So fine and finesse-driven with scintillating and expressive minerality.

KG Nierstein - The dramatic uncle. This wine announces itself once you pour it. It’s dramatic and intense but also fine, nimble and deep with luxurious flavors and intense acidity. It’s dramatic in the best way possible.

KG Oppenheim - We might call this the cool child genius. Very precise and razor-like with some lovely complexity. Quite mineral.

The Fifth

And now we have the fifth premier cru which we are debuting today. The 2020 Kühling Gillot Nackenheim Riesling Trocken for $29.99 a bottle on a 4 pack and $27.99 on a case. This is the artsy cousin of the bunch. Earth and perfume are the trademarks of this wine. This comes from grapes only in the Erste Lage and Grosse Lage vineyards of which one is the famous Nackenheim Wurzlecht which gets 98-99-100 point scores on a regular basis.

Nose is slammingGorgeous and pure with honeyed apricots and ginger. Even a hint of herbals. Maybe sage? Insane spices. This is wide open. So good. Tree bark, orange rind, so much complexity. Earthy and tropical and saline. Some fruit cake. After air it gets so salty and funky in the best way possible. Yellow fruits, mineral and very perfumed. Spices and ginger.

Gorgeous, juicy, elegant and wide openCrystalline purity and texture. This is awesome. Pink grapefruit and blackberries. Tart but has insane balance. Aggressive but caressing minerality. Not punishing at all. Really wonderful. Unreal texture. So complete. Just coats the palate. Awesome purity. This is stunning. Super stunning. Long as the day is in July. Another beautiful wine.

"A very expressive village wine. Intense pink and yellow-grapefruit aromas, plus some bread dough and wild herbs. At once sleek and compact, this has a strident structure that makes this both strong and zesty through the bold finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." - 93 Points, Stuart Pigott

2020 Kuhling-Gillot Nackenheim Riesling Trocken - $31.99 ($119.96 4-Pack, $335.88 12 Bottle Case {$27.99}
