DJ P - A True Original

As I said before in a previous post I was really in to DJ'ing for a period of my life. I used to order all these videos from Turntable Lab and wish I was as good as the dj's in the videos. I was ok but I am selling wine for a living so I wasn't as good as I hoped to be. What me and all my friends appreciated the most was complexity and rhythym in scratching, beat-juggling and other tricks. There was a competition called the DMC World Championships where the they all battled to see who was the best. I must have watched these videos hundreds of times. So I am watching this one and DJ P comes out and just does some crazy shit. He does not scratch crazy, or beat juggle crazy and frenetically...he mashes music up. Mixes Steve Winwood with Afrika Bambatta, BlackStar with Phil Collins.....I did not know how to react...my whole world was shattered. He then clowned around and breakdanced for the last minute which was mad funny. Everybody dissed him for mixing in a DMC battle but he actually was changing Hip-Hop History as we know it combining with Z-Trip on the legendary Uneasy Listening mix. A true original and I'll admit I did not know it at the time. Now his mash up mix Suck my Mixx is one of my favorite things to listen to ever.
