I like Lopez Whites better than Lopez Reds - I am not being a contrarian!

Last night Douglas Polaner Selections invited some of the top accounts in the greater New York Area on an airstream bus in Brooklyn to taste alot of Lopez wines. Don't get me wrong by the headline...I love the reds.....but the whites I find are more interesting wines. The reds are great but definetly remind me of red Burgundy. The whites remind me of nothing and are truly their own thing. 1973 Tondonia, 1976 Bosconia and 1970 Tondonia were very memorable among the reds........but '68 Tondonia was a freak show to the max among the whites. The simple but not so simple '89 Gravonia was incredible and the '81 Tondonia Blanco was stunning. I could not keep my nose out of the glasses for these whites. They combined savory elements with great freshness and seemed like they would last forever. Does not matter what year they were from. Somewhere in the Lopez de Heredia winery there has to be a portrait of some shot, decrepid old bottle of Lopez Blanco . . . .Dorian Grey style!
