2005 Dr. F. Weins Prum Urziger Wurzgarten Kabinett Feinherb - This upon opening was a bit all over the place but came together in a great way over the next 1/2 hour. Classic Mosel nose of green apples, slate, spice and some peach sticking out. Great purity and crunchy minerality plus that extra little something that makes '05 special. Has the great detail and delicacy of Bert Selbach's wines. Great balance between sugar (maybe 16 grams), acid, the wealth of fruit and minerality.
2005 Schafer-Frohlich Halbtrocken - I cannot put into words how good Tim Frohlich's collection of 2005's are. This is one of his introductory estate wines and it is slamming. Just explodes in your mouth with salty, mineral fruit. Combination of stone fruits and red fruits. Almost tannic but really showcases the ripeness of the vintage and has dazzling purity. Long...long....long. A stunner. These estate and Kabinett '05's are stunning!
can a haltrocken be rockin?
