TN: 1971 Huet le Haut Lieu Demi Sec

Just some miraculous life-affirming stuff. Nose was developed but still had something in reserve. So complex and ephemeral. Light, detailed, enveloping all at the same time. Dare I say that this wine can invoke a hallucinatory experience if need be? Chenin perfectly aged is something. Nuts, flowers, chamomile, lavender, honey, granola, honeycomb and some spice. Just an utterly compelling perfume. It's like an R rated Riesling. There is something much more darker to it than Riesling. It's a happy wine like Riesling but has a blunt edge to it. The palate was expansive and deep yet light on its feet and powerfully youthful. This wine was still young. There was luscious stone fruits. Intense apricots. Had acidity that made it feel young but the opacity and breadth of an older wine. Finish expanded and this wine had midpalate that would not quit. This was great and there are not enough words to do this justice. Thank god this wine is still somewhat affordable. Fantastic.

I repeat, the 33 that is pictured is not the wine I drank..but the label looks exactly the same except for the fact that 1933 is actually 1971 on this label.

  1. Hi Lyle,

I just found your blog after seeing the link from Manuel Camblor's. Nice postings!

Great to read about this 1971 and how it is perfectly in shape. I have a 1961 and a 1969 Huet in my cellar I plan to open soon.

    Best regards,
