Eric Asimov wrote a great article on the wine avant garde, wine geeks, envelope pushers, anti-spoofulators, whatever you want to call us.....and yes I include myself in this group as I lament and tirelessy espouse real wine and am anti-spoofulation (you should know what this word means now!). Finally a group of people I am proud to be a member of! Today is a day of rejoicing. Now what to open tonight...Brun, Coudert, Ollivier, Foucault, Prum, Amirault, Schonleber, Radikon, Lispida, De Moor, Masavecchia, Renardat-Fache, Schafer-Frohlich, Chevillon, Baudry, Denis, Roally, Cotat, Vatan, Mascarello, Raffault, Wirsching, Bisson, Larmandier-Bernier . . . .you get the point.
NY Times article on Wine Geeks.
Lyle, Regarding Eric; I am still plodding away at his homework assignment of April 11th. Nearly done with Joy's list but have a ways to go with your list. I have been buying a few bottles at a time and SL is close to my office so...
ReplyDeleteI hope that you wouldn't mind sharing some of your vast wine knowledge with me, a newbie whose New Years resolution was to learn more about wine. I have two questions and two comments.
The comments are: loved the Texier Cote du Rhone you put on your list and; love love love can't wait to get my hands on another bottle of the Pepiere Muscadet sur Lie. I was completely freaked out by the minimal aroma and huge flavor that followed.
The questions are: I had the Boulay Sancerre Chavignol in the past, but the bottle I picked up at Chamber St. was red. Confused, I drank it anyway - delicious, yes, but a few days later Eric commented on the same bottle but his was white. Is there an answer to this mystery? And; If I pick up wine at Chamber St and it sits in my car for a spell (in this heat) how long do I have before I am in danger of doing damage to the wines?
thanks a bunch
Pamela,
ReplyDeleteSancerre comes in three colors. Red, white and pink. Pink and red are always 100% Pinot Noir. White is always Sauvignon Blanc.
Do not let sit in your car for long! Unless the AC is blasting. You can look at the top of the bottle for seepage after it has been exposed to heat. That is the giveaway. if it is seeping..cross your fingers..pull the cork and hope it is not damaged.
