I was a film major as I mentioned in the earlier post on wine and movies and I even matched a wine to Ingmar Bergman's The Silence which happens to be my favorite Bergman film. As a film school geek I think it was imprinted in my DNA that I had to love Bergman. Well he made it easy to do. Beautifully photographed films (Sven Nykvist) with incredible emotional depth. Bergman also influenced many filmakers and was probably the best film "artist" to ever direct. Bergman will be loaded up in the DVD player tonight. The Silence followed by Winter Light followed by Cries and Whispers. Maybe not the most uplifting trio of films but hey its Bergman and I don't expect to feel great after I see a Bergman film. I expect to be lost in thought for the next hours, days, weeks etc. as the films always have a wonderful staying power in my mind. He lived a long life and has an amazing body of work which will live on forever.
Bergman is dead.
