The last bottle from the first FULL case of wine I ever bought . . .

. . . and the wine is NOT 1989 Robert Denis Azay-le-Rideau Sec. I am not that cool. Okay..the two wine geeks who get that joke can stop laughing as I humbly pronounce it to be . . .1998 Librandi Gravello. It cost me like $19 a bottle wholesale. We sold it for $23.99 at the Wine Shop. I fell in love with this wine when I tasted it Gambie Rosso five years ago and then proceeded to sell the shit out of it at the 'ol Wine Shop on the UES. 60% Gaglioppo and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from Calabria. I would not buy this wine now as my palate has changed but the last bottle was pretty nice. Of course the Cabernet really came through on the palate but the nose was a nice blend of Gaglioppo/Cabernet and really accented Gaglioppo's intriguing aromatic qualities. It always reminds me much more of Nebbiolo than Aglianico, which is the southern Italian grape that is most commonly associated with the northerly Nebbiolo. There was a nice tarry rose petal thing but there also was definetly that curranty/cassis Cabernet thing going on too. Palate was pretty developed and had great concentration but you could also tell it was a bit glossed over and overextracted but still the wine had nice balance and cleansing acidity. Good wine and really shows why I DO not buy cases of wine anymore. It took me five years to finish the case and by the last bottle I had a very different palate. And the beat goes on . . .
