Lambrusco is one of those words normal non wine people shudder when they hear because they associate it with the industrial cola-like crap that Riunite pumped out in the 70's. Considered very lowbrow because of the bastardization of the Lambrusco brand it has languished ever since then . . .but in fact these are vibrant, complex, food friendly and just lovely wines. Eric Asimov focused on that today in his wine column in the Times and it is a great article and hopefully it will do wonders for sales of Lambrusco in this country.
Waaaaay beyond Riunite . . .
The title of this post is a reference to Nicolas Belfrage and Jancis Robinson's excellent book on Italian wine and even they fall victim to the bastardization of Lambrusco as you can see by the
dismissive title. My two favorite Lambrusco's right now are 2005 Ceci Lambrusco and the 2006 Zucchi Lambrusco di Sorbara Rosato. Both can be had for under $15.
Could I mail you some of our Lambrusco to review? Your page made me smile.
