So to dive back into drinking wine afer my aural pains I had a pretty special bottle that was very good, but also explains why I don't have many of this particular style of wine in my cellar. The wine in name was the
1982 Laville Haut Brion out of 1/2 bottle. Recently purchased from a private cellar acquisition by us (CSW) this was very good wine but not in a style I care for. The nose had moss, wood spice, wax, lanolin, some dried citrus fruits. It was a nice nose but not particularly divine in any way. The palate was heavy-handed but had a nice mouthfeel and exquisite balance. There was a nice core of concentrated citrus fruit and intense earthy minerality and zowie Batman! acidity there. The finish was long and I got a couple memorable sips out of it but ultimately I understand why I have 0 bottles of White Bordeaux in my cellar. It is a very particular style of wine that comes pretty close to reminding me of a mild spirit. Very good stuff but you can see why White Bordeaux is not as popular as it once was...if it ever was popular.

Then a night is not complete with a German Riesling and the one I revved up was the
2006 Wittman Riesling Trocken. Gobs of chunky minerality, citrus oil and sea salt on the gloriously dry and high-toned nose. The palate has incredible freshness and chunky minerality with a beautiful elegant mouthfeel. The concentration is wonderful for this level. I still have a bit in the cave for tonight. Excited to see how it has developed.
this drying out would suggest to me the 1998 LHB I have should be drunk sooner than later. loss of friut et. al.
