I had the pleasure of having the 2006 Clos Roche Blanche Cuvee Gamay last night and it is nothing short of astonishing how much fruit, character and just plain old soul that Didier and Catherine can stuff into a bottle. The minerality is nothing short of brilliant. Like sweet chalk. Wonderful pure and vivid kirsch, fruit lipstick and cherry aromas intermingled with wet earth, chalky minerals and flowers. Structured and concentrated and beautifully rocky on the palate with a great finish. There is a slight biterness that adds complexity. This has some mega-structure and will age gracefully for 5-8 years. It is amazing how different serious Touraine Gamay is compared to wonderful cru Beaujolais.
I think it's time for the cellar webcam, don't you?
