NV Gutt Sekt Riesling Brut Sekt - Nice , uncomplicated creamy wine. Easy to drink and nothing more exciting than correct.
2004 Geheimrat "J" Riesling Spatlese Trocken - Pungently mineral nose with nice notes of apple skin. Nose is very airy and complex. Complex and very minerally palate with crunchy fruit and a long piquant finish.
1992 Rudesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling Spatlese Trocken - Minerally nose with some hints of burning hair, hot rocks, burning embers and yellow fruits. Some petrol too. Seems aromatically mature. Palate is spicy and concentrated with nice purity and freshness. With all that minerality there is a juicy fruitiness and a long finish, Nice sweet/sour tension on the finish. Lovely stuff.
2005 Rudesheimer Berg Schlossberg Erstes Gewachs - Silky, opulent and polished nose. Very mineral. Really defines the Wegeler style in this nose. Creamy. The palate has opulent fruit and a very powerfulo mouthfeel, Really juicy and oh so drinkable. Explosive finish. Really gains as the wine sits in the glass.
2005 Wegeler Pure Estate Halbtrocken - Such a great estate wine. In a classic halbtrocken style with great tension between elegant fruit and big acids. Tangy lime echoes on the finish with a mineral/rainwater driven palate. Excellent.
2002 Ostricher Lenchen Spatlese - Nice ripe nose but this was a bit short on the palate. Pleasant nonetheless.
2005 Rudesheimer Berg Schlossberg Kabinett - Wonderfully minerally and pure nose with lemony goodness. Great tension and tang on the palate with powerfully ripe fruit. Very drinkable and excellent Kabinett.
2005 Rudesheimer Berg Rottland Spatlese - Powerfully decadent wine here yet closed aromatically. Holding alot in reserve it seems on the nose and pretty shy on the palate at this point in its evolution. It is enormously concentrated and ripe but is so backwards almost seems dry. Great material though.
1990 Geisenheimer Rothenberg Auslese - Crazy botrytis on the nose with lots of minerals, leather and spice. Almost buttery nose. Rich, cocentrated, dense and pure with a long finish and that amazing 1990 balance intertwined with ripe acids.
2005 Geisenheimer Rothenberg Auslese - Rich, ripe and creamy in the classic Wegeler creamy style. Very sophisticated and lithe wine. Light yet immensely rich. Incredible stuff.
2003 Geisenheimer Rothenberg Eiswein - Really one the best 2003's I have tasted. Insanely ripe apricot/white peach fruit on the nose. Very concentrated and expectedly ripe on the palate with incredible power, depth and precision. The fruit just takes over and clings to your palate. Silky with a cooling fruit feeling on the palate. Lovely and pure.
2005 Geisenheimer Rothenberg Berenauslese - Very young at this point but beautiful acidity and layers of intensely ripe apricot fruit. Can't tell much now.
