Quick comment on DrBigJ's new reviews or lack of reviews

Guess Lopez de Heredia is not an important enough winery to be reviewed in the WA. Is it me or is this the most startling absence of a great estate in Spanish WA reviews in a while. At least Parker would give them 86-88's and call them lighter style efforts. Not to mention no Ameztoi or D. Ventura which have to be some of the most exciting, terroir-driven wines being made in Spain today. But no Lopez . . . .c'mon Dr. Big J.

  1. I just wrote a post on my own blog about how Parker's publication, even if I go ou of my way not to read it, tends to come my way much in the manner of second-hand smoke.

I also explored the possibility of a mystical connection between Keith Richards as the "new face" (never were there mroe ironic quotation marks) of Louis Vuitton (I saw that in perezhilton.com), the recent acquisition of Numanthia by LVMH and this new list, which I can imagine the suits at LVMH perusing for potential buys.

Miller didn't do LdH, but he did La Rioja Alta. Scored them in the nineties, too. I shall send my condolences to the pointed.

  2. Hey, Lyle thanks for the props on VinoWire and yeah, Lòpez de Heridia, those guys will never get it. Glad to see you're blogging again. Peace, the other Dr. J

  3. NOT A SINGLE DE MAISON WINE REVIEWED!!!

I know that I'm not exactly unbiased when it comes to Andre's wines, but he is, without a doubt, the most cutting edge importer working in Spain right now.

Frankly, this is a bit of a mixed blessing. It's sort of good that someone with the palate issues of Jay Miller isn't reviewing Andre's wines, and that makes it easier for the average guy to get them and makes his producers less annoying. (Spain is as addicted to the point system as any place I can think of.)

I mean Ribera Sacre is the shiz-nit right now. Maybe THE coolest new thing out there.

    Anyway, what a fuck-toad.

  4. I am just back from Mexico and I am glad you are out of your funk. Welcome back to the living!

    Quick question:
do they talk about recession/depression at every subway stop in NYC? I am waiting for that to jump back into the market.

  5. I just can't imagine a review from him on the latest rosé from Lòpez de Heredia. I mean, and not meant in a mean-spirited way, but would he even consider a 1997 rosé to be wine? If he had to drink it, I can just imagine him mixing in some Clos Erasmus to bring it up to the level of "real wine".

  7. It would be comical to see Jay Miller tasting Lopez Rose. At least for entertainement value!
