1er Cru Morey St Denis under $60 - One of the Best Values in 2012 Burgundy - A Wine You Want in Your Cellar

Herve Murat is perhaps our most popular producer in Burgundy. It's no wonder why, as the wines are

very fairlypriced for a super high quality micro negociant with 4-5 incredible estates wines (the HCDN wines and Beaune 1er Cru Tuvilains) that always perform above their pay grade. Herve is always in the vineyard and the work shows in the finished product. As I have stated previously his 2011's were uniformly better than his excellent 2010's because he improved as a winemaker.  Well, the 2012's combine further improvement from this young winemaker with the incredible 2012 vintage.

The 2012 Herve Murat Morey St. Denis 1er Cru "Les Charrieres", which can be had for as little as $59.99 on the 3-pack is Herve's best wine from his best terroir, from the best vintage since 2010/2005 (for me the best since '99 and maybe better) and shows of his talents as a great winemaker. In 2012 the MSD is a sexy beast. Classic Murat purity and freshness for days in this wine and then all the 2012 amplitude is there with the typical high-toned yet darker fruit than normally is associated with Les Charrieres. The nose is big, dense and ripe.  The acidity is wonderfully refreshing and provides a nice contrast to the big fruit and velvety tannins. The finish is absolutely epic - this is why you buy great Burgundy and it is a wine that you will want in your cellar.  A juicy, dense wine and the best Charrieres yet. This is for long aging as are most of Murat's 2012's. This wine is a masterpiece and one of the best values in one of the sexiest Cotes de Nuits villages.  The vineyards are old vines, right next to Clos des Ormes with very low yields.

Premier Cru Morey starts at $65 and negociant wines, like Drouhin, are $90.  The better producers run from $110 - $200 so to get wine from a star like Herve Murat at under $60  - well, let's just say that Christmas came early this year.  I bought this direct from Herve, and cut out 2 tiers so I can offer this at a great price.

Herve is a marvel as he works so hard to improve himself as a winemaker and also his sources for grapes are so finely vetted and he has such great input into how the grapes are grown and treated that this is like an estate bottled Domaine because there is little to no difference between his estate and negociant wines.
