I Don't Have Much of This and It's an Awesome Offer So It Goes Out While People Are Trick or Treating It's a Trick if You Are Out (and Don't Get it) and a Treat if You Get Some

One of the formative experiences in my wine life was when I left an old job and an old boss, who
many I'm sure reading this know who it is, brought a bottle of 1989 Domaine Huet Haut Lie Sec to my final dinner at Montrachet. Montrachet Mondays! Who misses those? This was in around 2006 or so. It still remains to this day the best dry Chenin Blanc I have ever had. It had a texture that only something with age could have. 4-dimensional I called it. Now 1989 can be mentioned in the same breathe as 1947 for Vouvray but finding any 89 Huet Sec these days is an exercise in folly.

I have always been on the hunt for old Huet Sec and it has been hard to find. People cellar it and keep it for themselves. The Moelleuxs seem to be the easiest to find, Demi-Secs next and a distant 3rd, the aged Secs. Well that day is here. I have a stash of 1998 Domaine Huet Le Haut Lieu Sec, that was bought on release and cellared perfectly for as little as $54.99 on a 3-pack. I won't drink a bottle of this stash as it will sell out rather quickly but I did drink a small amount of it shortly after I had the '89 in 07/08 and it was still youthful and loaded with potential. 1998 is a very strong petillant and sec vintage with nice grippy acids and loads of minerals. Similar to 1998 in the Mosel which I love so much. It has that same profile. Mucho minerality, nice crisp acids, terrific freshness and purity and good structure for aging. And Huet ages better than any of them in my opinion. This wine is drinking great now but will last comfortably for 3-5 more years in the cellar.

1998 Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Haut Lieu Sec - $57.99 ($164.97 3-pack) (LIMITED)
