If There Were an App to Design the Perfect Fass Selections, White Burgundies, These Are What I Would Create: Two 2013s - An Affordable BB and A Masterful 1er Cru Chassagne

These are the FASSIEST white Burgundies in the portfolio. What does that mean? It means these
have what I, if could create a killer white Burgundy in a lab, would want in the Lyle  Fass perfect White Burgundies.

 - Balancing Acidity.  First of all, these wines have acid to keep them fresh. Like acid you cannot believe. Martin Müllen acids. Ever present acids that balance the fruit on the palate but never seem forced or too much. These wines are the FASSIEST acid profile of any of my Burg producers. I loved the first sip and haven't looked back.
 - Juiciness.  The wines must also be juicy. Man these are juicy. Electric. The only word is electric.
 - Fruit.  These wines have glorious fruit of the sweet tart kind but they have their moments of opulence as well.
 - Complexity.  I love delicious fruity, juicy wines as much as the next guy but what really gets me going is a wine that has the complexity that I can really sit back and contemplate.

Analytically the 13s have higher acids than than the 14s and now that they have come out out their shell the 2013 whites are strutting their stuff. I had a number of 13s in Burgundy and they were consistently stunning. Today I am proud and honored to introduce the wines of JanotsBos to Fass Selections. They are easily the FASSIEST white wine producer we work with in Burgundy.

Up first I've got the 2013 Domaine JanotsBos Bourgogne Blanc for $24.99 a bottle. Blind I thought this was a 1er Cru, perhaps from Puligny or Chassagne. This wine is the real deal. An insane Bourgogne Blanc. If I sell a BB you know it's going to be good. Berlancourt, Garaudet, JJ Morel and now JanotsBos. These are all very, very different styles. The vines this is sourced from are 50% Meursault "Les Pellans" and 50% Puligny-Montrachet "Champs Perrieres." No wonder I thought it was a 1er Cru. That is great terroir for Bourgogne Blanc. No two ways about it. This wine is stunning and is one of the best BB's I've sold at Fass Selections. Really lovely nose. A notion of fat with loads of iodine and saltiness. Also delicate and defined pear and apple. All on a super expressive background of minerals. It's super aromatic and nuanced. Really captures you. Smells like a village or 1er Cru. Palate is truly impressive. Super deep palate with incredibly expressive minerality and mouthfeel. Very finesse-driven with serious sap and big juicy fruit on the pithy side. There is incredible power and explosiveness here. So persistent and mineral. Just a stunning Bourgogne Blanc and one I'll be buying a case of. And hopefully you will as well so I have special case pricing at $22.99 a bottle. I want people to drink Burgundy this great like it is no big deal.

I used to have a Morgeot I sold and I loved it as Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot is one of my favorite 1er Crus in all of Burgundy. It has a character I love. I was thrilled to the gills that Richard had 13 Morgeot on his list and I was even more thrilled that he had some for me to sell after I tasted it. The 2013 Domaine JanotsBos Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" which can be had today for $57.99 a bottle on a 3-pack is stunning. Period. End. Exit stage left. Take a bow.  This is one of the best Morgeots I've ever had. From 40+ year old vines. Big, fruity and floral nose. Very mineral. Rock quarry like. Huge, wafting, intense. So Morgeot and just so Burgundy. Gorgeous. It's also opulent at once and yet also never lets you bask in the opulence as endless waves of mineral assault your olfactory senses. The palate is marked by its intensity of floral,  mineral, opulent yet insanely racy acids. One of this wines where each sip is an experience. It has ridiculous sap and intensity and razor sharp acids. There is terrific underlying material here and tension you can cut with a knife. Incredible complexity on the finish. So much going on. Drinks like $90-$100 bottle of Morgeot. This is all class as the intense wine is all wrapped up in super finesse and elegance. So beautiful. Not to be missed.

Burgundy is a place, let's be honest, that is not that welcoming to outsiders. France is a very provincial society and it filters down into the wine "deep state" that exists in France. Also throw in the Napoleonic inheritance laws and it is very hard to acquire land, grapes, must, and what not in Burgundy if you are an outsider.  I remember my first visit back in 2008 and not seeing but one or two wines that were not Burgundy on wine lists. Richard Bos of the the new Fass Selection estate, Domaine JanotsBos is an outsider who came, he saw, and by my tasting in his cellars in March, he conquered.  Richard is from the Netherlands and still commutes back and forth between the winery in Meursault and his home in the Netherlands where he still has friends and family. Richard's partner is Thierry Janots.  Janots was the part time winemaker for a number of years at Comte Lafon.  Both have been killing the game since 2005. They don't own their vineyards like many outsiders in Burgundy but have connections to them and visit often and have great relationships with the land owners who they coordinate with to get the grapes the way that they want them.

12 years is a small nugget in time for a winery in Burgundy. One second on the Doomsday clock. And in that time they have raised waves. For high quality Burgundy these are a must.
