Two Chavy Chouet 2016s - Classic Vintage like 2008/2014 - 1er St Aubin and Village Meursault

St. Aubin 1er Cru - The Ultimate Insider's Wine - Rare as Hen's Teeth
- Across from Chevalier Montrachet and Directly Next to Champs Gain
- The Intensity of St. Aubin and the Elegance of Puligny
Meursault "Les Case-Tettes"
- Stunningly Mineral
- Terrific Concentration and Incredibly Clean

I have never had a bad Chavy Chouet bottle. Wait, let me correct that. I've never had a bottle from
Chavy Chouet that has been less than profound. Each time I open one I say it's too young and then am blown away. Happens with every wine. Even in the "difficult" 2015 vintage (as promulgated by the fake news) he produced monumental wines he had no problem selling out quickly.  Even by Romaric's chill standards (the guy is super cool and super chill) he was so exited about the 2016 vintage he actually used an explanation mark when he first mentioned that he might have something special in December.

I visited in March and tasted and was blown away. Absolutely blown away. Immediately I asked Romaric what does he compare this to. He said it's like 2008/2014 and if they had a child. That's 2016 White Burgundy. Prodigious fruit concentration, incredible site character, tension and acidity for the ages and ridiculous extract. I was floored how great they were at this young age. And man that acid and tension. Hoo boy! These are equivalent or better than the 14's here and he knows it so there is a price bump. Combine that with the Euro bump and these are a bit more expensive than the 14's. But having said that the value here is unmatched in the Cote de Beaune. The combo of the most ridiculous portfolio of almost every top 1er Cru, lieu-dit in Puligny and Meursault plus one St. Aubin that happens to come from the best vineyard in all of St. Aubin.

Which brings me to today's email. I always have to sell this wine first because Romaric sells out of it first. There's a reason. Today I'm thrilled to offer the 2016 Chavy-Chouet St. Aubin 1er Cru "Les Dents des Murgers des Chien" for $59.99 a bottle on a 3-pack. I finally got an allocation in '15 and now the '16 all is a bit bigger. I hope most of you are sipping on some delicious Fass Selections wines by a pool or on a patio and enjoying a lovely summer afternoon/evening and checking your email. This vineyard. Let me tell you about this vineyard. This is one of those "insider" Burgundy wines. It's an insider wine because it is St. Aubin, but it is across from Chevalier Montrachet and is directly next to Champs Gain in Puligny. That is some exalted terroir. It is, for me, the best vineyard in St. Aubin. Because St. Aubin has only recently become prominent, this vineyard is not necessarily well known as St. Aubin's best. The 2014 was the best example of St. Aubin I've ever had. The 2016, tasted out of barrel is maybe even better. 2016 is a great vintage at Chavy-Chouet as I explained before.

The wine is screamingly mineral: a rock quarry on the nose. It is staggeringly pure with lemon candy, seashells and more and more rocks.  Stunningly detailed. Palate is elegant and intense, concentrated and so lithe. Amazingly juicy and mineral with such grip and length. Magical. The palate is a citrus/green apple explosion that has so much flavor density and detail in each drop. It blows my mind every time I taste as the class of the terroir is immediately evident.  It covers and gets to every nook and cranny of your mouth with almost Grand Cru grip and intensity. The intensity of this wine cannot be believed.  It can and will age for 15+ years but I think it will drink well young. The '14 drank well young and so will this. This is as profound as his greatest Puligny and Meursault 1er Crus and is one of the biggest insider sleeper wines in Burgundy.

Up next I have the 2016 Chavy-Chouet Meursault "Les Case-Tettes" for $49.99 on 4-pack. I'm offering 4-packs because Meursault this great and this price is impossible to find and you all should be buying massive amounts of this wine. I've told you to buy tons of wines before and then the price goes up like Galeyrand/Murat/Duroche and JM Bouley. This WILL happen at Chavy-Chouet and is happening. This is the best deal in White Burgundy today with his sick vineyards and insane talent. This is one of those awesome lieu dits that consistently perform like way more expensive 1er Crus. Think Tessons or Meix Chaveaux from Roulot. Remember back in 2001 those were $40 wines. What are they today? The name Les Casse Tetes means broken-head or brain-teaser and refers ton the extremely difficult very rocky soil that is next to impossible to work. It is very thin soil and is on a cliff overlooking old rock quarries. What results are wines of uncommon mineral depth. What a wine. Gotta be most underrated estate for high quality white Burg from top sites in all of Cote de Beaune. Amazing nose. Meyer lemon, gorgeous defined minerality, so lithe and detailed. Smoke, nuts, butter. Palate is just as impressive if not more. Explosive concentration and purity with amazing detail, vivid fruit, sap, minerality and unreal length. Serious spine and structure here and a lovely sweetness you don't get in many white burgs. Wow. So juicy and clean. What a genius this kid is. Great acids. So fresh and so pure.

2016 Chavy-Chouet St. Aubin 1er Cru "Les Dents des Murgers des Chien" - $62.99 ($179.97 3-pack)

2016 Chavy-Chouet Meursault Les Case-Tettes - $52.99 ($199.96 4-pack)
