good reason. These are classic, incredibly well made Brunellos. We've been sending your feedback to the winery and they were very pleased and asked if we'd like to offer some of the 2007 from their cellar. 2007, along with 2006 and 2010 are considered the best vintages of the past decade. And by best, I mean really incredibly good. It took us about 4 seconds to thank them, say yes and blast this out.
Le Macioche is an absolute jewel of a winery with a miniscule 3 hectares of production in carefully selected, higher altitude terroir optimally situated to allow for the balanced wines that are the hallmark of this estate. The estate was for a long time owned by an elderly couple that did not market at all and hence the winery, although one of the best in Brunello, is unheralded in the US until this point so prices are much lower than they should be.
I am thrilled to offer the 2007 Le Macioche Brunello di Montalcino for $54.99 a bottle on a 3-pack. The 2007 growing sesason was warmer than 2006 and the wines are just stunningly rich and fruity. My tasting note says "YUMMY" in capital letters. There are lovely dark berry aromatics on the nose, which need about an hour to full present themselves. But this is a wine that is really about the palate presence. And oh what a presence it has. This wine makes itself known on the palate like only Brunello can. The fruit is just absolutely fresh, ripe and gorgeous. Mammoth black berry fruits with a hint of spice. There is a rich opulence on the palate. This IS a Fass Selecions wine so there still is acidic balance but when you taste this... it's like time just stops and you wonder why you have been lucky enough to have this wine. The fruit is still ripe and fresh tasting, which is pretty incredible after 10 years. This wine lingers on the palate for a bout a minute after you swallow it.
I just LOVE The house style at Macioche. It's so easy in a vintage like this to go over the top and have wines that are out of balance. But they always seem to keep that razor's edge balance at the edge of opulence that makes the wines fresh amidst all of that fruit.
This is drinking wonderfully now after 10 years of ageing at the estate. It has the structure and balance to last at least another decade.
Riccardo Caliariis one of those people who is almost a force of nature. Perfect in every way but restrained, like his wines. Impeccably dressed and eloquent yet understated, he knows every aspect of the estate and every flavor in every wine and when it will present itself in a tasting. He bought the estate with 2 friends and is focused on quality, quality, quality in every aspect of the business from the vineyards to the winemaking to the logo. Le Macioche is an undiscovered jewel that will not remain undiscovered for long - Caliari is one of those people who succeeds at anything they attempt by force of will. These wines will achieve the recognition they deserve and prices will go up.
