1- What was the last great wine you had that was not one of yours?
Recently I had a 1973 Clos de la Roche/Armand Rousseau at Franz Keller Schwarzer Adler. I shared
this special bottle with 2 winemaker friends of mine and it left us deeply impressed. And a 2002 HERRKRETZ Riesling GG from Daniel Wagner (Wagner-Stempel) where I spent my one- year- apprenticeship.
2- What was the last great meal you had?
An “OMAKASE” meal some weeks ago at Restaurant Intense in Kallstadt/Pfalz. It’s owned by a very creative young chef
3- What are you currently streaming on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon that you really enjoy?
Californication
4 - If you were prohibited from making wine, what would be your dream job?
Honestly, I think I can only make wine. Ok, maybe I would open up a bar?😊
5 - What is your favorite wine region that is not yours or ones you currently work with?
Burgundy
6 - What do you think is the biggest problem for winemakers today?
The climate or let’s better call it weather extremes: one year you have almost no rain, then one year later too much rain and mildew. Followed by a year with late frost and hail. Or a so far unknown animal called the “cherry fruit fly” starts eating up the red grapes, a pest that was never seen before. These extremes impose a huge challenge on winemakers at least in the Northern countries as long as you want to maintain high quality. You ask yourself – will there ever be a “normal” year?
