Had some great wines last night and they all scored 100 pts. What a night!
Started off with the 2004 or 2005 Movia Lunar. This was some loony wine. In the same vein as Gravner and Radikon but more importantly it was cheaper. Around $40 a bottle retail. Great balance and purity and that classical orange-natural wine nose of spice, orange zest and loads of minerals. The texture was nice and pillowy. Very nice and extremely interesting wine but not a must-buy. It actually needs to be drunk on the chillier side as when it warmed the alchohol really peeked through.
Next up was 2005 Laura Aschero Pigato which definetly has that Ligurian Northern Italian thing going on in the nose and had a very pretty and concentrated palate but did not seem to have the crisp focus I was expecting and look for. The nose was the most interesting part. Very perfumed and savory at the same time. Joe commented that when he tasted it there was alot more acidity. Interesting but ultimately overpriced James Koch wine was the verdict.
We then moved onto the 2004 Puffeny Arbois Trousseau which was slamming on all cylinders. Structured, ripe and juicy with very profound aromatics and a wonderful soft texture but with acidity to back it up. This wine echoed in the mouth and beautiful inner mouth perfume. This will be really great in three years. Not that it is a slouch now
