So I drank a bottle of 2005 Burgundy I am not sure I liked this weekend. The Gabriel Billard Beaune Les Fougets. The wine had too much acid. Tasted like a sour black cherry razzle. It never went away and we will see tonight if it has mellowed but I am not holding out. 2005 Burgundy prices are crazy as usual. Not really news but Clavelier Chambolle Combe Orveaux for $150+!! C'mon...I think I just heard about this wine last week. Is $150 the new $75 in 2005? Insane! I tell you the Burg people need Crazy Eddie to do their marketing in 2005. The Parker board is well......the Parker Board....nothing else needs to be said. I am becoming more outspoken since I cannot write tasting notes anymore on wines I sell am thinking of selling..so I give so much less of a fuck than I used to and have become less PC. But what the hey...Tony Bourdain is my idol and less PC got him dissing food on national television and sitting next to Padma Lakshi (sp?). Is she a chef? Or is she just hot and knows a little bit about food?I saw she wrote a cookbook or something. Does anybody know where the giant scar on her arm is from? Am I crazy or is it weird that I find that huge scar sexy? . . .amongst other parts of the lovely Padma. I cannot believe her and Salmon Rushdie are together. I need a fatwa declared against me. Maybe Robert Parker or Thomas Matthews? A man can only dream.
Speaking of Top Chef...when is Top Sommelier or Top Wine Guy coming out? When will someone tap into wines hip marketability and do someting on TV that actually works? Instead of the Thirsty Traveler or whats her face frolicking around in summer dresses drinking Pinot Grigio.
What is up with these wine terrorist guys in the Languedoc? These people are lethal. Should we sick 'em on Hamas or Al Quaeda? I never thought I would utter the word wine terrorists. These guys are serious. I mean they blow shit up.
I love certain wines in the 2006 vintage in Germany. Granted it is not slammin' across the board like 2005 but I seriously hope people buy some of the wines. If there is one country where you should not buy by vintage generalizations it is Germany. Pfalz is so different than Nahe is so different than Baden etc. The top wines in 2006 are just as good as the top wines in 2001, 2002, 2004, 1998 etc. They have outrageous richness backed by intense acidity. But when they fail, they fall flat on their ass. The bigger you are the harder you fall, ya know. I mean, besides top collectors, who else buys all wines across a vintage? Since I have started collecting German wines I have a vast representation of 2000-2005 in my cellar and will continue with 2006. Well, I lied, I have only a couple bottles of 2003...but that is a bad example as that was a freak vintage and as many people know I am an acid head.:)
Not much more to rant about but that's it for today.
In 10 years we'll see who was right on the '03s :) just hope we can drink some together since i dont have many '01 or '02s
