Troix grands vins de QPR

Just thought I would start the title of this post in French. Why not? Always trying to change it up a little here at Rockss and Fruit. I have been hammered by a stomach virus recently and my imbibing has been very low to non-existent so I thought I would rehash some notes on three great wines I have enjoyed before the ravages of this virus took over. The first was an ok bottle of the 2004 Louvetrie Muscadet de Sevre et Maine Le Fief du Breil. The reason it was just ok was because it seemed closed and as a result a little flat. The acidity did not jump out at me like the previous times I have had this bottle. There was lovely lemon fruit, great salinity and minerality, yet it did lack bounce and verve. Probably sleeping. Glad I have two bottles for the long haul. Ultimately though I believe the 2002 surpasses the 2004. Up next was a spectacular bottle of the 2005 Breton Chinon "Beaumont." After a wonderfully grippy bottle of the 2004 I was ready to try the much esteemed 2005. Much esteemed I say because David Lillie raved about it. Granted, David Lillie raving is him in passing saying it was a nice wine. That is good enough for me. THis had lovely aromas of ripe red and black fruits, nervy acidity and very ripe tannins and a just a very ripe profile in general. Not stripped of any of its Chinon character at all due to its ripeness. There was a nice herbal streak that ran through the wine. I would drink this ahead of the 2004 if you are sitting on both. Of course this will positively evolve for many yearsbut no crime in enjoying it now. A lovely Chinon and for under $20 an astonishing QPR. The final wine was the 2006 Laurent Barth Pinot d'Alsace "Cuvee Buster." This is Pinot Noir made as a white wine. Very nice wine and I appreciate it for what it is and what it is trying to do but It is not my style. Too fat and oily. There was excellent buffering acidity and impressive floral notes on the nose but the richness was too much for me. The color was a crazy exotic gold/apricot. The fruit was red PInot-like fruit with cherry and currant even also supplemented by stone fruits. Fleshy stuff and with nice mineral nuance but this was definetly about fruit first and foremost. Fun stuff and very well made but not my style.
