heard of them before as the wines were absolutely stunning. They remind me of Fourrier. Yes. Fourrier. They are utterly classic Gevrey Chambertins with fantastically brilliant site character, utmost finesse without sacrificing power, sappy vivid fruit that is very on the red side and incredible depth. They use wood so brilliantly it kept compelling me to ask young Gilles Duroche if there was any wood on the wine at all, despite tasting out of barrels in the cellar. This is a rising star domaine if I have ever tasted one.
Young Gilles Duroche started with the Domaine full time in 2005 and has really left his mark as the wines get better every year with 2013 being arguably the best that Duroche has made yet. I am offering the 2013's here because the wines are so popular in France that he is already sold out of his 2012's and he has very few 13's and these will be extremely limited. I am lucky to get these. This is a blue-chip Domaine on the level of Jean-Marie Fourrier, yet not priced like Fourrier. Fourrier has taken quite a price hike in the last 3-4 years, and yes the wines are fantastic, but become less fantastic when price is factored in. Duroche is brilliant and priced like normal Burgundy was 5-8 years ago.
Today I am proud to offer the 2013 Domaine Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin "Champ" for as little as $39.99. What? Yes. $39.99. This is one of four village Gevrey's by Duroche and easily my favorite of the '13 village wines. Super gamey and meaty on the nose with lovely pure tiny red fruits. The purity and freshness on the palate are tremendous as is the depth, concentration and length. Incredibly balanced with terrific ripe, pure and pearly tannins. This is compelling at $60 and ridiculous at $40. This will have to be allocated.
I am also really amped to offer the 2013 Domaine Duroche Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin for as little as $94.99 on a 2-pack. Again, a crazy deal. The wine has a nose that can fill a room. The palate has terrific sweet fruit and is very structured. Long, persistent finish with small cherry fruits that explode in the mouth. Meaty finish but also ethererally minerally. This will have to be allocated. For you point people the Burghound gave the 2012 91-93 and said " I like the delivery and overall sense of harmony of elements." But 2013 is better vintage at Duroche than 2012 as young Gilles has taken over and he has quite the touch. This is the new Fourrier.
This is one of those offers that you get for being a loyal Fass Selections customer. This is only going out to people who have bought wine from us here at Fass Selections. I can't tell you why I can't send it to the whole list, but it's all good as the 2013 Domaine Duroche wines you ordered are being bottled in February and will be here in March, and you will see the brilliance that is created in this sleepy corner of Gevrey.
As we all know in 2013 the Cote de Beaune got slammed by hail and quality is variable but the Cote de Nuits got pretty much unscathed and some gorgeous wines were made. The acidity is a tick higher than 2012 but the fruit is pretty damn close. Dramatic and voluminous and lots of it.
2013 Domaine Duroche Gevrey-Chambertin "Champ" - $42.99($159.96 on a 4-pack) (compare 2012 at $50-$60)(VERY LIMITED)2013 Domaine Duroche Charmes-Chambertin - $99.99($189.98 on a 2-pack) (compare 2012 at $120) (EVEN MORE LIMITED)
