I've sold a good amount of JJ Girard's wonderful but very pricey Corton Charlemagne and while I love it, it's above teh price range of most of my customers and it takes a while to come around (7-10 years).  Girard's clean and elegant style works great for whites and I've always wanted to sell a white of his from recognized terroir in the $50ish range.

I'm thrilled to announce that I'm finally going to do that today!

The 2017 JJ Girard Meursault for $51.99 a bottle on a 4-pack as this is a Fass 4-3-1 wine for sure.
Buy 4, cellar 3, drink 1. This is a sick Meursault and it's in a super racy style and is so well knit. Yes knit. It's all about the insane texture. But it also has that incredible 2017 sweetness to it that is a combo of a hint of sweet wood, beautiful and delicate sweet minerality, and sweet brown butter all set on an electric fence. This is so electric, and so swamped with minerals and richness it's just awesome. This is Meursault. Not 101, not 201, but 301. It's an excellent wine. There's viscosity from all this sweetness and certain lime candy mineral intensity. It's super long and just so expressive.

Stunning nose of meyer lemon, hint of sweet wood, mineral, saline, stunningly pure and deep aromas. It's so expressive but also in that classic Girard super transparent way. It's so Meursault. The nose is indescribable. Haunting, classic and beautiful and most important it's an open knit nose unlike the Corton Charlie which needs 5 years to become drinkable. This is raring to go.

Palate is racy, opulent and super mineral. It's so distinct. Huge concentration and also stunning levels of a wall of flavor of minerality and sweet lime and lemon. Incredible texture and super racy and vivacious. It's such a classic Meursault in that it's got all the buttery richness, all the intense rocky minerality and salinity, but also the grace, finesse and elegance of the Girard style. This is an accomplished wine and a great debut and an important new wine in the Girard lineup.  Below is what Burghound says about it.

"Airy, cool and very pretty aromas combine notes of hazelnut, acacia, citrus and lavender. There is once again good volume and richness to the energetic, attractively textured and solidly concentrated flavors that flash a subtle minerality on the impressively persistent finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages and worth your interest." Burghound, 90

Up next I have a wine I have not sold since the 2015 vintage as hail completely destroyed the crop in 2016 which was very upsetting as this wine, and this site, for me is the platonic ideal for Savigny 1er Cru, it's the archetypal 2017 Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru "Lavieres" for $42.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. The name Lavieres comes from the word Laves which are the flat rocks found in the soil.  It's located less than a mile from the hill of Corton and abuts Aux Fourneaux and Aux Gravains, two terrific 1er Crus. It also abuts Girard's great Pernand 1er Cru "Aux Vergelesses."

Stunning nose. Perfectly ripened mid-season cherries and loads of just perfect undergrowth.  Also hints of very fine tweed jacket. A lipstick like intensity. Like a new Brioni. Gorgeous violets and other complex floral notes. Hints of citrus. This is just singing. Really stunning. It's so clean and airy and just super Savigny. So pure and so dare I say it, Delectable.

Palate is wonderful. So lifting with crunchy, ripe and gorgeous mid season sour and red cherry fruit. So vivid and detailed. Terrific inner mouth aromas of underbrush, violets, other floral notes and loads of crunchy cherry and even ripe cranberry fruit. Long and delineated with amazing energy and precision. Long, detailed with that perfect Burgundian finish of earth, mineral, cherry fruit, flowers and undergrowth. Superbly fine and refined tannins with lovely freshness than really pushes this finish to the next level. There is a tiny bit of rugged tannin on the finish which will resolve with age. I think in 3-4 years this will rock and last for 10-15 more. Below is what Burghound says about it.

"Here the expressive and airy nose is much more floral-inflected with its notes of red currant, cherry, raspberry and a whiff of wood spice. There is excellent intensity to the energetic lighter weight flavors that deliver sneaky good length. This isn't particularly concentrated but I like the delivery and the refreshing finish that flashes just a touch of youthful austerity."  Burghound, 90
