As most of us know, Romaric Chavy-Chouet has crossed over into the elite tier in terms of quality and price.  His top wines will be at or just under $100 at traditional retail in the States.  His style is perfect terroir replication "Plus."  What is the Plus?  The Plus is that his wines from any vineyard taste like wines from that vineyard except even more so.  A bit more fruit.  A bit more minerality.  And a bit more acidity to balance it out.  Think Roulot or Coche Dury.  The wines are still a value because he's a great producer and I sell them for less than traditional retail becuase I buy direct.

Romaric's 2018 Reds
The 2018s have even more clarity, more finesse, deeper fruit and more fruit precision, more freshness and more depth than his 2015's.  When I tasted them, I knew Romaric had reached the big time. The wines were on the level as I like to say. He sent me the prices and I noticed the increases but didn't even break a sweat as these are outrageous values, still. The guy is a star. I'm lucky to have him as he is known for his support of the little guy.  The Pommard went to another level in 17 and now 18 and is likely up there with the top white 1er Crus in the portfolio. The Pommard has now added incomparable finesse.

The Wines
The 2018 Chavy-Chouet Pommard 1er Cru "Les Chanlins" can be had for $89.99 a bottle on a 3-pack (this wine would cost $125+ through 3 tier). The wine is ridiculous.  Bonkers. Some of the best pure fruit I've tasted in a young Red Burgundy and with an added level of incomparable finesse that makes this wine standout. This is the kind of wine that when you first sip it, your eyes open to the max and as soon as you swallow, you utter "Oh, my God."

The nose is the essence of Pommard with crushed red and even some black berries and black cherries with huge mineral aromas and tons of dusty earth. It is so intense and has the stamp of tiny berry fruit firmly there which I love. The energy of this wine on the palate is just thunderous.

The palate has the typical Chanlins richness but is more refined than usual due to the overwhelmingly concentrated fruit that chips away at the youthful rusticity this wine has in a normal vintage but has really started to shed that and it now has class and refinement with only a smattering of rusticity.

The finish has firm Pommard tannins that are amazingly ripe and sweet but also pumps huge amounts of fruit to every nook and cranny of your palate. Also that energy keeps this wine engaged with your palate like no other Chavy Chouet red I've offered. This is indeed, profound. I tasted out of barrel in March and could have brought it home right there with me and drank it this past Autumn.  Usually it needs 2-5 years to become civilized. This will drink well after 5 years but the aromas Pommard gives after 10-12 years are worth the wait.

It's the perfect application of the Chavy-Chout style to red wine.  The parcel is in an incredible
location between Volnay 1er Cru Les Pitures and the Pommard 1er Cru Haut Rugiens Bas. That is stealth top notch neighbors to have. The vineyard is very rocky and has a serious slope to it.

Up next I have the 2018 Chavy-Chouet Volnay Les Carelles 1er Cru Sous La Chapelle for $79.99 a bottle on a 3-pack (this wine would cost $100 through 3 tier). Carelles is right next to Champans and shares some of that giving fruit forward quality that Champans has.  Real Burg hunters know there is serious value here as will also label collectors. Les Carelles can age wonderfully as well.

The aromas start with black berries, black cherries and leather which is a classic aromatic profile from this site.  There is insanely complex spice and mineral but the dark, rich concentrated fruit is front and center.  Gorgeous nose. Beautiful earthiness on a bed of mid season cherries with accents of black berries. Stunning and vivid wet earth. Haunting and spellbinding aromas like great Volnay can get. Very nice melange of black and red fruits. It is so dynamic, fresh, sweet and elegant with super refined and sleek ripe and juicy tannins plus ample amounts of dark, gorgeous fruits. The fruit is so sweet, so voluminous and voluptuous, ever-present and winds down at its own pace. A gorgeous and tapered finish that dissipates like only haunting Volnay can.  This is one sexy and seductive wine. The tannins are incredible now on this wine. Sweet, elegant and so refined. This can easily be enjoyed upon release but once this hits 5 years it will be perfect. This and the Pommard are the two best reds Romaric has ever made.

I also have the 2018 Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Rouge "La Taupe" for $29.99 a bottle on a 4-pack. This is brilliant in 2018 and it is so good this will be the second vintage I offer as it is full of fruit and character. This wine is an outrageous value in 2018, with massive generous levels of fruit. Big berry, raspberry and spice on the nose. Very clean. Some mint and menthol. This is from a plot near Pommard with gives it substantial body and fruit concentration. The wine is stylish and very pure with loads of grip and an amalgam of fruit. Very fresh and very grippy. A steal!
